If a limo costs $60 for a hotel transfer from the airport, what would YOU tip the driver? Is $20 the accepted norm (even though it's over 30%)?

What I find funny is that when I'm comped a limo, I leave a $20 tip, which ends up being the amount, or more, of what a cab would cost me. I have never tipped them limo drivers more than $20 tip, but maybe I'm frugal. As you say, that is much more than 20%. I have once or twice tipped $10. I figured if the limo was comped, I should really get value for it, so I should end up spending less than on a cab. This has been a few years ago. Maybe now they tip more. As someone said, tips are a voluntary reward for satisfying service. I know in Vegas many people tip outrageously, but then, many people are whales. A polite driver will not say anything, regardless, but you will be thought cheap if you tip less than twenty, would be my guess. I would like to read the opinions of others. I get a comped limo where I stay and the cab fare with tip would be slightly over $20. I give the limo driver $25 for the trip from the airport to the hotel. I figure he wait's for us to arrive, takes the bags to the limo and loads them. On the trip back to the airport I give him $20 since all he does is drive us there and unloads the bags. What are your thoughts?

VPWayne, that is exactly what my husband tips and for the same reason, on the way home it is basically just a drop off.

I had mentioned this in one of my trip reports awhile back. I tipped $20 and asked if that was appropriate. Never really got a straight answer but someone commented that it depended on distance (I felt they were implying that I hadn't tipped enough).
My husband thinks it should be the 20% rule. When he books them for business clients and includes the tip, the limo companies automatically add 20%.
I could imagine tipping more if one wants to stop along the way or has a lot of luggage especially something awkward like golf clubs.

I always tip $20 per trip. I did this back when I got a comped limo from airport to hotel, and I do it now when I hire a sedan to take me from home to the airport or from the airport to my home. (It costs about $65 from my home to the airport, and $70 the other way because of the fee for leaving McCarran.) I really appreciate the comfort of the limo/sedan, as compared to a taxi, and the drivers are always very helpful with my luggage (especially lifting it off the carousel, which I can't do very well). And -- they let me smoke, lol.

I'm not a limo type of guy, but the one time I used one was from the Four Seasons at Mandalay in their own car to Downtown, and I gave him $20. That was a while back though....

Thanks all for your replies. As I've said, the lime is $60 so a $20 tip is more than a 30% tip so I will not feel guilty about giving that to the driver. There will be no luggage to speak of, just our carry ons so no work for him/her except to deliver us to the hotel safely.

On the annual 7 star trip, CET comps the limo rides but it is a wash as we are paying the tip price we could have had a cab for. Since the ride is short, comfort isn't that big of a deal. It was mentioned in replies of similar situations, I wonder would one prefer to have no comped limo and cab it with an equal value of a dinner comp instead? I think I would.
